The Land of GA

Bella and I boarded a plane for a trip to Georgia. An extended visited with friends and family.

Bella and I spent the first day on the lake riding in the boat and wave hopping in the tube.

I drove of Ellijay, GA—featured in the April 2008 issue of National Geographic Adventurer!— for some trout fishing... ok, really drinking beer with friends, relaxing, reading, and laughing.

Bella spent the weekend with grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins having a lot of fun. We wrapped up the weekend with a cookout (and the final round of the Masters on the TV).

We are looking forward to next year!

The Easter Bunny paid a visit and Bella sat for a photo op.

Easter crafts and an egg hunt ensued. Allow us to share some of the highlights with you...

A Birthday with the Disney Princesses

Bella is 5. Bella got the biggest present for a birthday one can't ask for: a vacation in Walt Disney World.

We got to be kids again with her. Shannon got to eat a lot of real candy apples. I got to ride Mt. Everest. Sun. Pool. Fun.

Then there is the dinner with Cinderella. Or meeting Ariel. Or it could have been story time with Belle. Maybe it was High School Musical street dancing. Or the wonder of walking through Cinderella's castle.

Whatever the most exciting part, Bella's eyes remained wide with wonder every day on an adventure she won't soon forget.

Overdue News &tc.

Posted by tstone at 9:54 PM in 'srkE

It really has been more than three months since the last update.

The petmystones have been busy and this is the first of several updates to follow with “all the news that's fit to print.”

First, an update our October note about “Hacking the Matrix.” As it turns out, last week I was avoiding an accident happening in front of me and my iPod flew from its perch on the dash (where it sat atop an iGrip). It crashed into the door handle, shattering the iTrip (an FM broadcaster).

No excuse better than that to get a radio with iPod integration.

We'll sign off with the list our overdue new items:

  • Disney, a Bella birthday visit!
  • Easter, an audience with the bunny
  • The Land of GA, boating fun

You'll have to wait for daily updates... don't want to overload ya. They are queued, so you don't have to wait for me either!

Larry Elmore is an art hero of mine from “back in the day.”

A cover of a book, or game supplement, with the “Elmore” signature in the corner was good as sold. His work was evocative of high fantasy and adventure.

Check out his website at LarryElmore.com.

...is a Barbie, a movie, another movie, a bike, a pony, a Giselle Enchanted doll, Sleeping Beauty's dress, books, a watch...

Bella told Santa that she is a very good girl and that she should get everything on her list. Bella's list is very long.

Hacking the Matrix

Posted by tstone at 9:57 PM in 'srkE

Wired recently featured a HOWTO issue that highlighted the possibility of integrating an iPod into the standard radio/CD unit of any given car.

I own a Toyota Matrix—aside from all of the Matrix puns I get to use— the Matrix is a great car. But Toyota has been slow on the uptake of the idea that MP3 (read “iPod”/resources/images/emoticons/wink.gif integration is not optional equipment. I would go even so far as to say iPod integration is barely on Toyota’s radar.

Taking the Wired article to heart, I yanked the radio/CD unit out and studied its ports and hookups. No options for splitting the input and adding a headphone jack were present.

Not disappointed, I learned that replacing the radio could be very easy: the dash disassembly is very easy and non-destructive. Popping a new unit in with an apropos faceplate to match the resulting void would be necessary.

I’ll have to seriously consider that Alpine unit under 200. I don’t need no stinking CD player. I could even sell the original unit on eBay.

More likely, it will wait. We’re looking at a truck on the horizon.

New banners

Posted by tstone at 3:11 PM in 'srkE

Petmystone from time-to-time adds new images to the banner rotation at the top.

Three new banners have been added for your random viewing pleasure:

  1. Sunset
  2. JagdPanther
  3. 21 gun salute

The first is a great exposure of a fiery sunset a week or so ago. Shannon grabbed a great shot silhouetted by our neighbor's roofs. The last, a 21-gun salute, was taken at the memorial service for Robert Edward Allen, Jr., Marine, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, at his internment in Arlington National Cemetery.

Continuing, as promised, a review of rock and tribute at petmystone.com. Enjoy, in a random way.
