The dam water is high
It took me a dam long time to come up with that pun.
Oops. I did it again!
But seriously. The Conowingo Hydroelectric Plant near the mouth of the Susquehanna (meaning “Sparkling Water” ) River at the Chesapeake Bay is big news, locally. With 28 of 53 flood gates open, the town of Port Deposit is cut off from the north with Route 222 flooded and many river side homes threatened with imminent flooding.
Bella and I took a trip to the dam to see what’s what. We share some of the sights with you, our reader!
If you’re sufficently interested, you might want to take a look at some of the data being recorded at the dam by the USGS and the Advanced Hydrologic Predicition Service (AHPS). The AHPS has some interesting stats regarding the effects on Port Deposit when a given number of floods gates have been opened.
The Petmystones lived on the Susquehanna. One might argue, Bella was born on the Susquehanna; hence more than slight interest, if only trivial. While our home was never threatened in Harrisburg, close friends experienced basement and near first floor flooding on several occassions.
