Larry Elmore galleries online

Larry Elmore is an art hero of mine from “back in the day.”

A cover of a book, or game supplement, with the “Elmore” signature in the corner was good as sold. His work was evocative of high fantasy and adventure.

Check out his website at LarryElmore.com.

Wolf

Okay, I'm not afraid to tell you, as Shannon will affirm, I'm a geek. It's part of me. My siblings will tell you the same.

I play with computers, read comics (though mostly just the funnies these days; my comic book collection quietly appreciates in a long, slender box in the basement), and I’ve had my history in roleplaying games back in the days of my youth; I think this latter interest was much to the consternation of my parents, but of my closet friends to this day, I met in game rooms around Conyers and Covington, GA. But my inner geek has always been manifest in the creative.

I build websites (a very creative aspect and use of technology), built and painted military in scale and miniatures (which laid foundations of a more than passing interest in war history across all eras; my aspiration and inspiration was Francois Verlinden, look him up on Google ), and illustrated “characters” for my friends in those aforementioned game rooms.

This first illustration I post came to me after I hosted a friend and his son for one of those games. I won't bore you with the details…so enjoy. Your comments are welcome.

Illustrations and Copyrights

I have taken up my pencil and pen in a bit of renewed interest in comic illustration.

Most, if not all, of the work that I post to this category will licensed under the Creative Commons. A sort of “copyleft” licensing practice, more open then the traditional “copyright”; Creative Commons often dubbed “cc” and noted as Some Rights Reserved.

For the curious wondering about the illustrations and techniques: I typically begin with a penciled sketch then scan at a high resolution, 300 or 600 dpi, putting it in Photoshop for the final ink fills, shades, and details. This is a relatively new technique for me, but practiced by a lot of web comic illustrators today. I'm still getting the hang of it.

Why the illustrations? Bella likes it when I scribble out a sketch of something that interests her (like my recent poor attempt at Cinderella that I dubbed Manerella for its masculine likeness). Plus, I like the creative process of composing something from the mind's eye.

Also, you’ll be able to download high resolution formats of the illustrations if you use an RSS capable browser or blog reader. Otherwise, it's just the version I put in the post for you.
