Back from the edge

I've been on vacation with the wife and child.

Three days in Virginia, USA. Specifically, Williamsburg. Precisely, two days in the parks of Anheuser-Busch's Busch Gardens Europe.

Pictured, for your enjoyment, is my new favorite thrill ride, The Griffon. Damn. 205 feet. 90 degree drop. The pitch line, “...the only way down... is straight down!,” could not be more apropos.

After the Griffon, everything in the park is weak. I could spend the day on this thing.

Happy Father's Day!

Posted by tstone at 9:59 PM in 'srkE

Today was a good day.

I exercised my “handiness,” wiring a ceiling fan in my daughter's bedroom (and learned that a switch in the “middle-of-the-run” should not make the neutral (white) wire hot. Ouch. Spent most of the day up and down a ladder in the attic, sweating.

The smile of Bella in awe of her new fan was payoff enough.

But getting a BeerTender was cool.

Happy Father's Day all! Hope your's was good too. Even if you didn't get a BeerTender.

The Land of GA

Bella and I boarded a plane for a trip to Georgia. An extended visited with friends and family.

Bella and I spent the first day on the lake riding in the boat and wave hopping in the tube.

I drove of Ellijay, GA—featured in the April 2008 issue of National Geographic Adventurer!— for some trout fishing... ok, really drinking beer with friends, relaxing, reading, and laughing.

Bella spent the weekend with grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins having a lot of fun. We wrapped up the weekend with a cookout (and the final round of the Masters on the TV).

We are looking forward to next year!

A Birthday with the Disney Princesses

Bella is 5. Bella got the biggest present for a birthday one can't ask for: a vacation in Walt Disney World.

We got to be kids again with her. Shannon got to eat a lot of real candy apples. I got to ride Mt. Everest. Sun. Pool. Fun.

Then there is the dinner with Cinderella. Or meeting Ariel. Or it could have been story time with Belle. Maybe it was High School Musical street dancing. Or the wonder of walking through Cinderella's castle.

Whatever the most exciting part, Bella's eyes remained wide with wonder every day on an adventure she won't soon forget.

Overdue News &tc.

Posted by tstone at 9:54 PM in 'srkE

It really has been more than three months since the last update.

The petmystones have been busy and this is the first of several updates to follow with “all the news that's fit to print.”

First, an update our October note about “Hacking the Matrix.” As it turns out, last week I was avoiding an accident happening in front of me and my iPod flew from its perch on the dash (where it sat atop an iGrip). It crashed into the door handle, shattering the iTrip (an FM broadcaster).

No excuse better than that to get a radio with iPod integration.

We'll sign off with the list our overdue new items:

  • Disney, a Bella birthday visit!
  • Easter, an audience with the bunny
  • The Land of GA, boating fun

You'll have to wait for daily updates... don't want to overload ya. They are queued, so you don't have to wait for me either!

Larry Elmore is an art hero of mine from “back in the day.”

A cover of a book, or game supplement, with the “Elmore” signature in the corner was good as sold. His work was evocative of high fantasy and adventure.

Check out his website at LarryElmore.com.

...is a Barbie, a movie, another movie, a bike, a pony, a Giselle Enchanted doll, Sleeping Beauty's dress, books, a watch...

Bella told Santa that she is a very good girl and that she should get everything on her list. Bella's list is very long.
